Fauna
Tootgarook Swamp has so far recorded over 150 bird species, 13 reptilian species, 8 amphibious frog species and 12 mammals, including 5 bats, though no full survey of the entire swamp so far has ever been done to show its true value, and much of the current data has been collected during drought time. It contains nineteen state, federal, and international protected species of fauna, along with another seven species listed as vulnerable.
The majority of species threatened with extinction in Victoria are wetland dependant, and of all the fauna specimens in the Tootgarook Swamp, Insects and Invertebrates as the main food source for much of the fauna by far outnumber all others.
Below are link to a series of pages to some of the indigenous inhabitants of the Tootgarook swamp, fauna that has been introduced (feral) can be found under threats.
Do you have a photo from the swamp of any of the species not listed in any of the pages, we would love to hear from you, please email info@savetootgarookswamp.org
